Wizards of the Coast released five new Dungeons & Dragons titles on 15 September 2026, putting high magic at the centre of its autumn publishing schedule. The range includes the core rules expansion Arcana Unleashed, a high-level campaign named Deadfall, and a slipcase poster map pack. Independent retailer Loaded Dice, based in Sully and Barry in South Wales, responded by launching a 48-hour online flash sale with the code ARCANA10, offering 10% off the entire run until 11:59 pm on Sunday 20 September.
The move shows how independent game shops are taking the fight directly to international e-commerce giants. Rather than ceding the web to massive global warehouses, local shops are running fast, modern digital storefronts that reach customers nationwide. They are combining lower prices with real hobby knowledge, telling customers which books they need and which ones they can leave on the shelf.

What the rules expansion actually delivers
Arcana Unleashed targets tables where magic is everyday infrastructure rather than a rare miracle. The standard book sells for £37.39 against a £41.99 RRP and contains:
- Eight new subclasses built on traditional magical themes
- 33 new and updated spells adjusted for current rules
- 47 magic items, including relics that grow more powerful as characters level up
- 19 monsters and magical creatures
- Nine arcane factions and six group patrons to give campaigns clear political stakes
- Tomb of the Shadow Serpents, a starter adventure for early character levels
The evolving relics solve an old problem in roleplaying games. In many long campaigns, characters find a signature weapon or wand at level three, only to throw it into a bag of holding five sessions later when a plain weapon with higher numbers turns up. Evolving items scale alongside the player, giving them a practical reason to keep their gear. Both Arcana Unleashed and Deadfall also come in alternate art hardcovers at identical prices, though the text inside is unchanged.
High levels in Thay and the missing mid-tier
Companion campaign Deadfall costs £22.29 against a £24.99 RRP and trades traditional dungeon crawls for espionage. The story drops the party into the magocracy of Thay to face the lich Szass Tam across levels 11 to 20.
Graham Scutt, Hobby & Collectables Specialist at Loaded Dice, said in a blog post;
High-level D&D is notoriously awkward to run: the party can teleport, scry and resurrect their way around most plots, and a lot of published campaigns quietly fall apart under that. An intrigue campaign is a smart answer, because information and leverage do not stop mattering just because someone learned to fly.”
The book fills a genuine gap for high-tier play, but the release structure leaves a clear void in the middle. The starter adventure in Arcana Unleashed covers levels 1 to 3, while Deadfall begins strictly at level 11. That leaves seven character levels with no connective material. Game masters will need to build homebrew sessions or buy separate adventures to connect the two books.
The format choices
The Arcana Unleashed Map Pack costs £18.69 against a £20.99 RRP and includes ten battle maps across five double-sided posters. Unlike the hardcovers, which are zero-rated for UK VAT, the maps carry standard 20% sales tax. Tactical battle maps help run complex combat on a table, but groups playing theatre of the mind will get little use from the set.
The physical release also highlights the ongoing split between printed books and digital play. None of the five physical products includes codes for virtual tabletop platforms or digital copies, meaning groups that run games online will have to buy the materials twice.
