To outsiders, Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower series has been sitting in TV adaptation limbo, but at least it’s in the extremely capable hands of director Mike Flanagan, who has just issued a quick update. And although the series still hasn’t yet been greenlit, it’s looking fairly promising.
Flanagan has been busy promoting his new Carrie series (you can check out the trailer here) but whilst doing so, responded to fans via BlueSky who were asking about The Dark Tower. He provided a short, but positive answer: “It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever worked on, but we’re making progress.”
He’s definitely been taking his time over this, as he independently secured the rights to The Dark Tower series all the way back in 2022. I imagine it’s going to be fairly epic, with the plan to adapt the books over five seasons and two movies.
Now, as some of you may know, I’m not someone who will ever forget the absolute disaster that was The Dark Tower movie – nor will I forgive. But, I have a lot of hope for Flanagan taking the reigns over this behemoth of a story, and even believe he will in fact be able to do it justice.
Another promising factoid is that the script for season one is already written, and King-approved!
So, let’s forget past failures, put our faith in Flanagan, sit back, maybe eat a popkin, and take a look and remind ourselves of some of the reasons we should be excited about this news:
Follow the path of the beam, Mike Flanagan. Thankee sai.
