Monte Cook Games has announced Between Earth and Sky: The Roleplaying Game, a major new tabletop adaptation of Rebecca Roanhorse’s bestselling fantasy trilogy (Black Sun, Fevered Star, and Mirrored Heavens). The project heads to BackerKit soon, ahead of an expected 2027 launch, led by MCG Senior Designer Shanna Germain, designer Kenna Alexander (Coyote & Crow Games), and a team of Colombian and Indigenous American artists.

Set in the Meridian, a fantasy world inspired by the civilisations of the Pre-Columbian Americas, the game focuses on forbidden magic, political intrigue, dangerous avatars, and godlike powers tied to difficult clan loyalties. The announcement marks the publisher’s next high-profile literary adaptation following The Magnus Archives Roleplaying Game and Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game.
The news arrived alongside a busy weekend for the studio at Tabletop Scotland, the UK’s largest D&D gathering and second-largest tabletop convention overall. Monte Cook Games is using the convention floor for the official UK demo debut of the newly revised Cypher System rules.
Visiting the MCG booth in person offers a rare shortcut around current UK retail bottlenecks. Logistics partner Asmodee has faced delays getting the new Cypher core books into UK-friendly local game stores. To counter the distribution hold-up, Monte Cook Games is running an on-site promotion selling deluxe editions of their games at the price of standard editions.
The convention push comes straight off the back of another crowdfunding success. The studio’s Cypher—Advanced! flash campaign concluded on BackerKit at 525% of its goal, securing $262,476 from 2,501 backers against a $50,000 baseline. That project funded two core supplements, Cypher Bestiary II and Cypher Decoded, as well as a Pulp Action setting expansion, pocket rulebooks, and Roll20 virtual tabletop support.
Attendees can find Monte Cook Games on the Tabletop Scotland exhibition floor throughout the weekend to test the updated rules and purchase physical books directly. Those tracking the upcoming adaptation can follow the Between Earth and Sky BackerKit page for launch alerts, while late pledges remain open on Cypher—Advanced!.
