American publisher Renegade Game Studios has partnered with AMC Global Media to produce Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe Roleplaying Game, a new tabletop game series based on the television adaptations of Anne Rice‘s gothic horror books. The product line launches on crowdfunding platform BackerKit in autumn 2026, beginning with an Interview with the Vampire starter set, a New Orleans rulebook, and custom gaming accessories.

The initial release focuses on the historical New Orleans setting featured in the television series, following characters across shifting timelines from modern nights back to 1800s Paris. Rather than concentrating on political territory control or combat, the game prioritises emotional consequences, personal relationships, memory, and personal identity. Future expansions of the line will broaden its scope beyond vampires and ordinary humans to include witches and psychics from AMC’s Mayfair Witches universe.
Mechanically, the game introduces several custom rules designed to reflect the television series. A Flashback system allows players to revisit earlier eras to uncover secrets that alter ongoing scenes, while a Rewrite rule gives players temporary control to shape key moments in the plot. Injury is tracked across physical, psychological, and emotional damage tracks, and characters recover from damage by acting in alignment with their core identity rather than relying on standard rest periods.
Studios already publishes Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. Managing two major vampire roleplaying games under one roof raises questions about how the studio will differentiate the audience for each title, particularly given the shared focus on gothic drama. Furthermore, following Renegade’s decision at RenegadeCon 2026 to sunset its proprietary Essence 20 engine in favour of D&D 5.5e for its licensed lines, it remains unclear whether this Anne Rice title utilises a bespoke storytelling engine or adapts another existing system.
The press release leaves several technical details open. Renegade has not revealed whether the game uses a modified version of its existing mechanics or an entirely new set of rules. Additionally, the studio has omitted details regarding lead game designers, digital virtual tabletop support, and international shipping costs ahead of the autumn crowdfunding launch.
