Independent publisher Son of Oak Game Studio has entered the final 72 hours of its Legend in the Mist pre-order campaign, marking the close of a secondary funding phase for the project. The event, designated as a community “LaunchFest,” serves as the final step before the game transitions from digital files to availability in bookshops.

Having accumulated more than £1.5 million ($1,900,000) in funding across its development timeline, the studio now faces the task of distributing physical editions to over 20,000 global supporters while simultaneously preparing for its commercial retail debut.
The game is a prominent player in the tabletop industry’s trend toward rules-light systems. Built upon an evolution of the publisher’s established Mist Engine, Legend in the Mist completely discards traditional numerical statistics and complex modifier tracking. Instead, the system utilises descriptive keyword tags combined with a simple 2d6 resolution roll. Following a digital release last year, the final printed hardcovers are scheduled to begin freight and distribution this week from regional storage hubs in the United States.

| US Retail Launch: | 15 July 2026 |
The studio’s narrow schedule is easy to spot and hard not to worry about. According to the publisher’s current street dates, the physical books are due to arrive in US shops on 15 July 2026. This leaves an exact four-week window for the studio to organise, pack, and post thousands of individual international backer packages before retail stock appears on store shelves, creating a potential overlap between backer delivery and public availability. Son of Oak has a great track record.
To maintain momentum during this transition, the publisher implemented a direct-to-consumer store strategy featuring daily additions of digital content. This system delivers immediate supplements, including custom character sheets and modular magic rules, to customers who pre-order, while unlocking community milestones such as a printable tarot deck.
The core game layout is divided into a two-volume set comprising The Hero’s Volume and The Narrator’s Volume, allowing for standard guided play as well as dedicated solo and cooperative modes. The initial campaign setting is anchored by Hearts of Ravensdale, a low-fantasy book inspired by classic pastoral animation aesthetics that emphasises environmental exploration and local perils rather than traditional, combat-heavy level progression.
Amit Moshe, the game creator and founder of Son of Oak Game Studio, said in an email:
Built on the acclaimed Mist Engine, the game replaces traditional stats and math with descriptive ‘tags’ and a single 2d6 resolution roll, capturing a growing market wave of players seeking creative freedom over complex rules.”
By closing the pre-order storefront on Wednesday evening, the studio is concluding a direct-sales window that offered bundles such as the Ravenhome Bundle at up to 40 per cent off future retail pricing. While immediate PDF access provides instant material for late buyers, the true operational test for the publisher over the coming month will be the physical execution of its global freight strategy to ensure early backers receive priority over retail shelves.
