The London-based independent tabletop publisher Melsonian Arts Council has launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackerKit for A Swyvers Miscellany, a major physical expansion to its dark fantasy roleplaying game Swyvers. The campaign, which runs until 9 June 2026, aims to fund the final layout and print production of a sewn hardback volume designed to expand the gritty, street-level criminal sandbox elements of the core system.
Written by Ewen Macalister with illustrations by Andrew Walter, the new supplement introduces expanded city-generation tables alongside procedural sub-systems. These include dedicated rules for pickpocketing minigames, alchemy distillation, grudge tracking, and a modular generator for local serial killers. Production layout is being managed by Shuyi Zhang, who previously established the visual framework for the publisher’s surrealist Troika! line.
The project arrives at a complex operational window for the publisher. Melsonian Arts Council, managed by Daniel Sell, is coordinating the launch alongside the final logistics for DanCon, its boutique independent gaming convention. Operating from its base in East London, the studio has actively structured its production networks within the UK and the European Union to mitigate ongoing volatility in global ocean freight corridors, opting to rely on domestic fulfilment specialists Iglootree and Space Penguin Ink.
Financially, the studio has rejected traditional, granular stretch goals to prevent production creep, instead committing to unlock a comprehensive digital library of past titles for all backers if funding reaches a £25,000 threshold. Early backers who join the campaign within the initial 48-hour window receive immediate digital access to the Swyvers core rules and a standalone adventure module titled Marlough Docks.
The mechanical focus of the expansion mirrors a broader trend within independent roleplaying games toward high-lethality, resource-focused urban exploration. By focusing heavily on granular tables, ranging from street graffiti and bad teeth to posh operas and execution methods, the text attempts to codify the sensory and economic reality of its central metropolis, known to players as The Smoke.
The publisher has also reinforced its operational commitment to traditional production methodologies, explicitly highlighting an anti-generative-AI policy across all creative assignments for the book. Physical production is slated to conclude mid-summer, with layout estimated to require roughly one week of production time before files are transmitted to the printers for an anticipated late-summer fulfilment window.
