Paris-based creator Sumida has returned to the crowdfunding spotlight with a follow-up to the previously successful viral hit, DnD but Everyone is a Goat!. The new project, The Return of the Goat, is a Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition one-shot adventure that has already surpassed its modest Kickstarter funding goal. This latest module shifts the perspective from caprine protagonists to caprine antagonists, tasking players with defending a rural settlement from a shadow-infused uprising.

Set in the peaceful farming village of Meadowfen, the adventure centres on the accidental release of Baphogor the Horned King, a demonic entity sealed away for three centuries. As the influence of this “Horned King” spreads, the local livestock transform into shadow-infused monstrosities with glowing red eyes and a penchant for speaking Abyssal. The module is designed for two to six players between levels one and five, promising approximately four to six hours of gameplay that balances absurdist humour with genuine tactical depth.
Tabletop Mechanics and Village Defence
While the premise leans heavily into geek culture whimsy, the mechanical structure of the adventure appears surprisingly robust. Sumida has implemented a dedicated village defence system, allowing players to spend time preparing for the inevitable siege. This involves building barricades, setting traps, and rallying the local NPCs; decisions that the creator claims will have a direct impact on the survival of Meadowfen’s inhabitants.
The adventure is divided into four distinct acts, moving from initial investigation and NPC interaction to a large-scale siege and a final dungeon crawl beneath the village chapel. The Bestiary section includes five custom monsters, such as the Hexgoat, a spellcasting variant, and the massive Siege Ram. These threats culminate in a multi-phase boss encounter with Baphogor, featuring lair actions and legendary actions that scale according to the party’s level.
Expertise and Narrative Depth
The level of granular detail provided in the campaign materials suggests a deep familiarity with the 5E framework. The module includes six fully-realised NPCs, such as the anxious Mayor Turnipsworth and Pip, a young tiefling who serves as the emotional core of the story. Beyond the stat blocks, the adventure offers unique magical rewards that tie directly into the narrative theme.
This isn’t just a meme module (okay, it’s ALSO a meme module). It’s a proper adventure that happens to star demonic goats.
Among the loot, players might find a horn converted into a weapon or the “Infernal Goat Cheese,” a consumable item that provides healing at the cost of temporary, glowing red eyes. This commitment to thematic consistency, however bizarre, elevates the project above simple parody and positions it as a viable, high-quality addition to a Dungeon Master’s library.

Pledge Tiers and Delivery
The funding options for this caprine catastrophe are straightforward, with a focus on digital and physical accessibility. A pledge of approximately £4 grants access to the full PDF version of the roleplaying game module, including all scaling guides and maps. For those who prefer a physical book on their table, a tier at approximately £9 includes the PDF and a print-on-demand code. This code allows backers to purchase a hardcover version through DriveThruRPG at the cost of production and shipping once the files are finalised.
- Pledge €5 (approx. £4): PDF. Digital access to the full version of The Return of the Goat, including all scaling guides and maps.
- Pledge €10 (approx. £8): PRINT. Includes the PDF version and a print-at-cost code to order a hardcover copy via DriveThruRPG.
Higher-value rewards and stretch goals focus on enhancing the digital experience. If the campaign continues its current trajectory, backers will unlock a VTT-ready token pack for platforms like Roll20 and Foundry, as well as an in-universe field guide written from the perspective of the NPC Pip. Sumida has also teased a potential sequel hook, “The Goats of the Underdark,” which would expand the one-shot into a more substantial mini-campaign for players who wish to continue their struggle against the horned menace.
The campaign for The Return of the Goat is an all-or-nothing project, set to conclude on Thursday, 7 May 2026. Digital delivery of the PDF is expected within two weeks of the campaign’s end, with the physical print-on-demand options following roughly a month later.
