In a week where inboxes are groaning under the weight of generative AI marketing pitches and automated sales funnels, dScryb has launched its Black Friday offering with a pointed reminder of its USP: human creativity. The platform, known for providing high-quality boxed text for Gamemasters, has announced a site-wide sale alongside new audio features for players.
For a limited time, the company is cutting the price of all annual subscriptions by roughly 43% for the first year.

dScryb occupies a specific niche in the tabletop roleplaying ecosystem. While many newer platforms are pivoting toward Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate infinite (though often hallucination-prone)descriptions, dScryb employs a team of professional writers and editors. The service provides a searchable database of “boxed text”, descriptive paragraphs meant to be read aloud to set the scene, covering monsters, spells, items, and locations.
The discount applies to their three main tiers:
- Hero: Access to text, maps, and sound effects.
- Composer: Focuses on the audio experience via their Opus platform.
- Celestial: The all-inclusive tier.
Putting the “Sound” in the Players’ Hands
Perhaps more interesting than the price cut for virtual tabletop enthusiasts is the introduction of PlayerFX.
Traditionally, audio in TTRPGs is the sole domain of the Gamemaster. The GM controls the music, ambience, and sound effects, often juggling these alongside running the narrative and managing the rules.
PlayerFX changes this dynamic within dScryb’s audio platform, Opus, and its associated Foundry VTT module. It allows players to trigger sound effects themselves over the game audio. This means a player casting Searing Smite or a Bard delivering a Ba Dum Tss punchline can trigger the associated sound effect directly, rather than asking the GM to do it.
The base functionality includes over 70 free sound effects, while the Hero subscription tier unlocks a library of over 2,500 sounds.
The Celestial Bonus
For those willing to commit to the highest tier, dScryb is incentivising the “Celestial – Annual” plan with a group bundle.
Subscribers who hold this tier for at least 1 week by Tuesday, 2nd December, will receive four access codes for 120-day Player subscriptions. These are intended to be gifted to the rest of the gaming group, granting them access to the Dialogue and Combat collections, as well as the full SFX library to utilise the new PlayerFX feature.
Existing monthly subscribers can also utilise the Black Friday discount to upgrade to annual billing or a higher tier. However, the discount only applies to the first year of the new billing cycle.
