E3: Nintendo announces the Wii U

Project Cafe, Nintendo’s next generation console, has a name – It’s the Wii U.

My hopes are dashed. The controller will not be a portable console and it will not have location based gaming. However, the controller does have a 6.2 inch touch screen that uses a semi-AR system to map with the TV screen. Touching the controller’s panel on the top left, for example, is like touching the top left of the TV screen.

The console is backwards compatible with Wii games and even Wii controllers.

There is a stream of licences already in the work; Darksiders 2, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden and others.
