Annie Leung from the United States of America is in the record books. In particular, she’ll be in the 2011 edition of Guinness World Records – Gamer’s Edition. I had no idea there was such a book. I do now.
Guinness has produced a video that introduces Annie Leung and her Guitar Hero III talent. She’s impressive. Her word record is having the highest score in the female gamer category. She scored 789, 349 points playing “Through the Fire and Flames” on Expert.
Watch the video. See how she keeps one finger reserved for green and moves the others around – even using the other hand to bash the keys at times.
Annie’s a clear choice for an advert. She’s young and pretty. I’ve mixed feelings about Guinness’s tactics here. It’s great that they’re promoting female gaming. I suspect, though, they want to portrait her in a certain way.
See how they’ve dressed the room for the video (I’m sure she doesn’t keep her room in that state herself). I bet that dress wasn’t her first choice. They’ve even given her a weird glove.
What do you think? Is this an empowerment ad or are you a bit more cynical about the direction here?
