The trailer has just dropped for Edgar Wright‘s film adaptation of Stephen King‘s dystopian action thriller The Running Man, and it dropped harder than Glen Powell dropping down an elevator shaft into a sewer whilst throwing a grenade and destroying the apartment block above.
Yes, it’s that off-the-chain, surreal and wild of a ride that that’s only a very small part of why this trailer absolutely friggin’ awesome. You really have to see it to believe it.
The movie stars Powell as Ben Richards, a particularly hardy yet seemingly doomed contestant who, out of necessity, takes part in a rigged, dystopian death match whilst millions watch for the entertainment value.
The Running Man is the deadliest game show where contestants literally have to run for their lives, and don’t last very long. Most of them take part out of desperation. Before I tell you any more, check out the trailer below:
As an avid King reader, I cannot tell you how excited I am about this movie, having now seen the trailer (and having been let down in the past by the 1987 version starring Arnold Schwarzenegger). It looks so incredibly on point and just as crazy (if not more so) than the book.
Wright has previously stated about the film:
One of the things about the book that I loved was the fact that Ben Richards is out in the world on his own, so it’s like the deadliest game of hide and seek. It does feel like making a road movie in a lot of ways: a very intense, dangerous road movie. Ben is moving through different environments and meeting different people as he tries to survive 30 days out in the wild.
And you’ll be able to watch The Running Man when it’s released in cinemas on 7th November.
