A new bundle deal offers a gateway into Broken Tales, an RPG where folklore’s villains have become the heroes. In this dark fairytale game from Italy’s The World Anvil Publishing, a wish gone wrong has turned traditional heroes evil, forcing their former antagonists to become Hunters for a secret Papal order in a twisted, magical 18th-century Europe.
The game uses the narrative-first Monad Echo system, where clever storytelling can bypass dice rolls, but failure is always a dramatic possibility. The current PDF bundle includes the core rules, The Broken Ones character book, and a Storyteller’s screen, offering a complete set to explore this upside-down world.
The deal launched today and will run until July 22nd on the Bundle of Holding.

The Monad Echo system is a decidedly fiction-first engine where a player’s description of their character’s action is assumed to succeed unless the Narrator decides the outcome is in doubt. When a check is required, players gather a pool of automatic successes from their character’s narrative traits, called Descriptors, and their special abilities.
To find more success, the game employs a tense, push-your-luck mechanic: you can roll as many six-sided dice as you want, and every die counts as a success. However, the system is perilous, as rolling even a single ‘1’ results in a total failure of the action. This creates a dramatic risk-versus-reward calculation with every roll, where success might come with a cost, and taking damage can even unlock a character’s powerful Dark Ego.
