Fans have already had a long wait for Rockstar‘s highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, and now instead of 2025, the date has officially been set for 26th May 2026 – potentially braking some hearts.
I mean, it’s understandable that people are car-azy down in the dumps as a result, however Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has leant his full support.
Here’s what Zelnick had to say:
We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto 6, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations.
Rockstar’s own announcement on the delay, stating:
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
Zelnick also took the time to drive home (hah, get it?) the seriousness of the matter for Take Two, reassuring fans in the process:
We take the movement of our titles seriously and appreciate the vast and deep global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6. We remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence.
As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders.
Although there’s been a few bumps along the road, it sounds like Rockstar really plan to make it all worth the wait and they’re on track to make something truly awesome, so… hang in there (I tried to make a joke about roads, but I hit a dead end).
What do you think of the latest news about GTA 6 – no road rage here, I hope? Comment below – even if it’s just to tell me you’re sick of car puns or want me to ramp it up.
