Studio Bellnox Films is bringing to life Shun Umezawa‘s acclaimed manga, The Darwin Incident.
The Darwin Incident is a twist plus three more twists on H.G. Wells‘s The Island of Doctor Moreau. We have a “Humanzee”, a human-chimp at school and terrorists.
Publisher Kodansha USA describe it;
The Animal Liberation Alliance, an eco-terrorist organization, rescues a pregnant chimpanzee from an animal testing lab—only for it to give birth to a half-human, half-chimpanzee “humanzee” named Charlie! Fifteen years later, Charlie’s human foster parents are finally ready to send him to a normal high school, where he makes his first friend: a human girl named Lucy. In the meantime, however, the ALA’s stance has become ever more extreme, and now they’re here to drag Charlie into their terrorist plot…
At the helm of this adaptation are Katsuichi Nakayama (Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory), serving as chief director, and Naokatsu Tsuda (Tokyo 24th Ward) as director. The series’ intricate narrative is being crafted with a script by Shinichi Inozume (Gleipnir), while Shinpei Tomooka (TRINITY SEVEN) is responsible for the character designs.

Alisa Okehazama (JUJUTSU KAISEN) and Mariko Horikawa will compose the musical score.
It looks interesting and it might well be predicting the future but I’ll admit a concern. Anime does not have a great record when it comes to sensitive and trope free portrayals of different cultures and skintones. I fear The Darwin Incident is in dangerous waters.
