In a medieval fantasy realm, doom metal band Castle Rat, led by the indomitable Rat Queen, rallies the Count, the Plague Doctor, and the Druid to defend their kingdom against the encroaching darkness of the Rat Reaperess, Death herself.
This single, “Fresh Fur”, is from the debut LP “Into the Realm”. Fans can find more of “Into the Realm” on Bandcamp, which also has news about Castle Rat’s tour dates.
I’ve cited AD&D given the chainmail bikini, and I’m thinking maybe Book of Artifacts, but perhaps that’s more a homage to the hair! What about the 1994 Dragonlance calendar?
Or perhaps Rat Queen is more Red Sonja than D&D?
Musically, I don’t get many doom-metal vibes. It’s more harmonic than that, more like 80s cheese metal that leans heavily into folk. Apple Music says “rock”.
Help me out there. How would you describe the music?
