Can something be dramatic and melodramatic at the same time? That’s the question the English version of The Witch and the Beast anime’s trailer has left me with.
Based on Kōsuke Satake’s The Witch and the Beast‘s manga, the show will stream in January 2024.
Yō Taichi plays Guideau and Toshiyuki Morikawa plays Ashaf at the Yokohama Animation Lab helmed production.
Takayuki Hamana of the new Sorcerous Stabber Orphen is the director and Sfro Samurai’s Hiroya Iijima is on The Witch and the Beast character design.
We know TBS and BS11 will pick up the series in Japan but we’re waiting to see whether Crunchyroll, Disney+ or HiDive might be tempted to do so in Europe and the Americas.
Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the English translation of the manga, which describes the story as follows:
Guideau: a feral girl with long fangs and the eyes of a beast. Ashaf: a soft-spoken man with delicate features and a coffin strapped to his back. This ominous pair appears one day in a town that’s in thrall to a witch, who has convinced the townsfolk she’s their hero. But Ashaf and Guideau know better. They have scores to settle, and they won’t hesitate to remove anyone in their way…
There’s also an appropriate noir visual for the supernatural anime.
The 11th volume of The Witch and the Beast manga is due in October; it’s been going since 2016.
