The Merry Mushmen have released some highly acclaimed OSR content, such as the Knock! magazine. Never, until now, an actual adventure.
However, the team really liked Joseph R. Lewis’ adventure, so they are now publishing an expanded, prettified and OSR-ised edition. The Kickstarter community is swarming to support it, and there are two weeks left to join in.
La-An, the artist from Knock!, is back and on this new Old-School Essentials adventure which is welcome.
Nightmare over Ragged Hollow is a sandbox so players can interact with a town and its people in any way they want.
The adventure blends a traditional dungeon-crawl fantasy with some of the oddness of old folk tales.
It’s a long adventure, and the team suggests it’ll take 4 to 10 sessions to get through. The Merry Mushmen also opine that savvy GMs can weave the location and scenario into a campaign.
There is an original adventure called Ragged Hollow Nightmare, and this edition has a tightly controlled extra 30 pages. There’s;
- One town with three adventure mini-sites
- Three small dungeons
- One 50-room dungeon
- Three hexes with 16 detailed locations
- Two groups of potential allies or rivals
- Sixteen pre-generated characters
Backers at €12 will get the PDF of the 80-page PDF, and those who can stretch to €22 will get that and the physical booklet as well.
Those at €40 will get two copies, and that’s a small saving, economies of scale.
Merry Mushmen estimate a fairly swift turnaround for the campaign, with worldwide shipping slated for September 2023.
