Necrotic Gnome might be best known for Old-Schools Essentials Classic Fantasy and praised for the Foundry VTT module, but Gavin has also been busily working on Dolmenwood.

Dolmenwood is a setting for Old-School Essentials and is based on the fairy tales of the British Isles. These aren’t Disney-style stories but blend darkness and whimsy together, merging the wondrous with the weird in eerie folklore.
The goal of Dolmenwood is to bring mystery back to the tabletop for even veteran players. In Dolmenwood, old pros should not comfortably be able to work out what is likely to happen in a scene or encounter.
Characters in the game may find themselves drinking tea with the fairies, even foraging for magical mushrooms. Still, they may also have to slip into ominous ruins and worrying fungal grottoes or haggle with goblin merchants.
The preview for OSE’s Dolmenwood is 76-pages long and contains;
- A player’s map of the Wood.
- The breggle Kindred and cleric and enchanter Classes.
- Fairy and holy magic.
- Hounds, pipeleafs, and retainers.
- Encumbrance and travel rules.
- Longhorn nobility faction, 4 hexes, Lankshorn town excerpt.
- 4 monsters: gargoyle, goblin, root thing, yickerwill.
It’s not been a straight ride for the Dolmenwood project, as Old-School Essentials was caught up in the 5e OGL drama. Necrotic Gnome made some early responses and adjustments to their plans, as many publishers did when it looked like Hasbro’s lawyers and ambition would get in the way. When Hasbro U-turned, Necrotic Gnome had to announce that some of their course adjustments were not relevant any more nor necessary.
Now there are plans to get a Kickstarter running for Dolmenwood on August 9th.
