Ghostfire Gaming has another Kickstarter success, a “Project We Love”, and more than $125,000 pledged with a month to go on the Aetherial Expanse campaign.
The goal was a ‘mere’ $20,000, so there’s a demand for sailing across the Astral Plane in 5e-powered games. You can see progress on the Kickstarter pitch.
The sourcebook offers a campaign setting, new character options, naval combat rules and monsters suitable for the Aetherial Expanse. Also included are magitech crafted from infused aetheirum.
A sea of silver starlight floats in the limitless abyss of the Astral Plane, a huge expanse of aetherial liquid that shimmers when comets burst through its surface. The Astral Plane is the plane between planes, and gateways to these many realms burst open and close as though guided by an unseen will. A narrative of sails, guns, empires, and high piracy is set on this Aetherial Expanse.
Ghostfire’s new sub-classes are;

- Blade Dancer Bard
- Corsair Fighter
- Phantom Shrouded Sorcerer
- Reaper Warlock
- Technomage Wizard
The seas of the Aetherial Expanse are filled with magic. Liquid aether fills its depths, shimmering like starlight. In its fluid form, aether is highly reactive to magic, particularly elemental magic, while solid aetherium crystals drive magitech-infused sailing ships that navigate this astral region.
Through disciplined research and pure happenstance, the unique qualities of this realm have spawned wondrous arcane discoveries. The Aetherial Expanse: Setting Guide sheds light on scores of new spells and a multitude of magical items to fill your campaigns with awe and wonder.
A pledge of $25 will get backers a thank you shaped like the Aetherial Expanse: Setting Guide in PDF. At $45, there’s also a VTT license to take the game to your favourite platform and a digital asset pack.
The hardback is the reward at $60, and backers who double up to $120 get the PDF, hardcover, VTT license, fabric map, card deck, digital pack, and magnetic GM screen.
A special edition of the book also swaps in for the hardcover at $150.
The Kickstarter for Aetherial Expanse lists Foundry, Roll20, 5e Nexus and Alchemy as VTTs.
Ghostfire estimates an August 2024 delivery for these tiers, which is more than a year away.
