Pretend I’m cool enough to know about local burlesque acts.
Okay, the claim that Wizards of the Coast had a viral marketing stunt going with Cherry Pitz and the Girls from the Home for Wayward Girls and Fallen Women caught my attention.
On inspection, I think the claim might be as naughty as the act. The Broadwayworld.com article said;
WOTC LLC (the owner of the Dungeons and Dragons brand) has reached out to Cherry Pitz and the Girls from the Home for Wayward Girls and Fallen Women to help them with a viral marketing campaign on a new edition they have labeled 6X, it is so advanced and lifelike that the characters actually show up where you are playing. And where handsome Brad has his qualms about this, Cherry only has one question, can we get them on stage to do burlesque acts!
I like the idea of D&D 6X, though.
Hotsy Totsy Burlesque, the troupe behind the Wayward Girls, has a decade and a half of experience doing fan-show burlesque. I couldn’t find footage of their D&D gig, and the 9th March event at The Slipper Room in New York might be the first. I did find a Game of Thrones burlesque clips reel, though.
Maybe don’t watch if your or your employer’s internet scans are triggered by jiggling highlights of political murder.
The Broadway World piece also said;
Every month you are invited to The Home For Wayward Girls and Fallen Women. The residents of the home need money to keep their hotel open and to buy G-strings and glitter. Sadly, the shows have had their technical difficulties and in the past, they have had to combat Daleks, Darth Vader, The Borg, Zombies, The Ghost of Vincent Price, Network Censors, Evil from other dimensions and most recently Covid-19. But onward we press and the house mother Cherry Pitz along with her faithful consort Handsome Brad promise you beautiful, clothing-averse nerds, lots of laughs, spinning tassels and fun!
