I’ve mixed feelings about this research for Surfshark.
The VPN has been investigating the most dangerous pop culture search terms. Surfshark argues that these topics are picked by hackers to lure people in with content, gaming search engines, and then link to malware.
On the flipside, piracy may have been the intent of many of these searches. While Disney or Sony might feel like faceless megacorps who don’t suffer, that’s certainly not the case with tabletop RPG creators, comic book writers, and so many musicians.
Surfshark looks at musicians specifically, sports, songs, TV, movies, male and female actors, games, anime and books. I’ve picked those last three to highlight below.
The most malware-ridden anime searches
The most malware-ridden game searches
The most malware-ridden book searches
- The most dangerous pop culture topics.
