April the 1st was a popular day for Kickstarter launches, and it wasn’t even Tuesday. Mongoose Publishing’s Shield Maidens was one of the titles to launch, and this particular roleplaying game was funded within 24 hours.
There’s a free to download preview of Alison Cybe’s mashup of Viking mythology and cyberpunk below, along with the pitch video and a quick look at the pledge tiers. You can also just pop over to Kickstarter to make a pledge.
There are two hardbacks associated with the Kickstarter project. Both are full colour; one is a 192-page training guide (a player’s guide) and another 240-page Gamemaster’s Guide.
Shield Maidens TTRPG already has a free and 16MB preview to download (PDF Link).
Shield Maidens is set in the nine realms of Yggdrasil, which the books describe and features elves, dwarves, jotunn, dragons, mutants and even gods.
Characters are Shield Maidens, warriors based in Midgard and daughters of Freya. The game details more than 50 Galdr that grant divine powers, dozens of weapons, armour, chrome choice, and GM advice and adventure hooks.
You are a daughter of Freya, blessed by the divine. It is your task to free Yggdrasil from the tyrannical forces that control the greatest source of power: Ymir’s Blood. Elves have been ripping worlds apart for it, and Fenrir is killing Midgard with their constant drilling. The lifeblood of worlds is almost spent, and the Shield Maidens are the only thing that stands between the spring and fimbulwinter. You will meet all manner of mythical and technological figures throughout your journeys on the Bifrost, and you alone can save them.
A pledge of £15 is rewarded with a PDF copy of the Shield Maiden Training Guide.
There’s free shipping, even worldwide, on the Training Guide hardback as a reward to backers at £35. All the digital stretch goals are included too.
Both Shield Maiden RPG books are available as PDFs to backers at £40. Backers at £75 will get both books in hardback and free shipping.
Other tiers include retailer options and a £100 “Daughter of Freya” level that provides for official Shield Maidens cards and music.
The digital editions of Shield Maidens are slated for October and the hardbacks for December.
