Realm of Goblin: Beware the Dark Sisterhood is a free 5e adventure, 28-pages long and written by Eric Grissom.
Why such a chunky freebie? Well, Realm of Goblin – Beware the Dark Sisterhood is part of a promotion for the forthcoming Dark Horse comic book Goblin.
Beware the Dark Sisterhood is set in the same world as Goblin, which means you can drop it into any other high fantasy setting with the expected tweaks.
A child has gone missing from the city of Ara and his mother suspects the Dark Sisterhood, a fabled coven of witches that inhabit the area. The city guard has refused to entertain her theory and so she instead enlists the help of adventurers.
The adventure comes with six pre-generated characters, complete with great art and special abilities. While the downloadable adventure comes with six characters, you only need three to six to play. The game is written with the pre-gens in mind.
Included in Realm of the Goblin is a new race, the Dofda, frog-like mystics which, I imagine, we’ll meet again in the Goblin comic book.
You cannot expect more from a free download, but Will Perkins’ art is excellent, and I wanted more. We have it on the cover and to illustrate the characters.
The creative team behind the comic book are Eric Grissom and Will Perkins. That’s the same as the free adventure. I started by calling Beware the Dark Sisterhood “part of a promotion” for Goblin but for all I know, having an RPG tie-in with the comic book is as much as the comic book is a part of the world the creators want us to experience. We might have this freebie despite Dark Horse’s marketing team, not because of it.
The comic book is out on the 8th of June, and this is what comiXology says about it;
A young, headstrong goblin embarks on a wild journey of danger, loss, self- discovery, and sacrifice in this new graphic novel adventure. One fateful night, a sinister human warrior raids the home of the young goblin Rikt and leaves him orphaned. Angry and alone, Rikt vows to avenge the death of his parents and seeks a way to destroy the man who did this. He finds aid from unlikely allies throughout his journey and learns of a secret power hidden in the heart of the First Tree. Will Rikt survive the trials that await him on his perilous journey to the First Tree? And is Rikt truly prepared for what he may find there? From the Gregory Suicide creative team!
