FinalHorizon is a sci-fi RPG from GoodKnightGames that was published late in March and is available for free from DriveThruRPG.
The 52-page RPG is suitable for new players or experienced, with a mechanically straightforward rules engine.
If you’re old enough to remember computer games with dark screens and blocky green text, then you will be familiar with the game’s layout. And just like those early adventure text games, there’s no art and no respite from the contrast.
There are eight stats; strength, body, agility, technology, mind, psionics, charisma and fate. These are combined with a 1d10 roll and must beat a target number of 10 for a character to succeed. 1s and 10s may be critical hits or misses.
FinalHorizon is a reminder of how simple an RPG can be. There’s barely a setting, just the structure of making rolls for bartering, travelling and fighting, and so the game lends itself to space adventures exploring the universe for things to trade or tussle with.
Despite being 52-pages long, the whole RPG can be read in minutes.
