Set in an alternative history for Japan, during the 64th year of the region of Emperor Meiji and when Shogan Yoshinobu Tokugawa did not relinquish power, Joran the Princess of Snow and Blood is a revenge story.
Mixing Edo era culture and modern technology, dissidents known as Kuchinawa work to overthrow the government. The shadowy organisation known to few, and known only as Nue, opposes the Kuchinawa.
In the series, the protagonist is Sawa Yukimura, a woman whose family was murdered by the supernatural assassin Janome, a weapon used by the Nue.
Joran the Princess of Snow and Blood starts in Japan in April, first on Nippon TV, then BS and CS NTC before being picked up by Hulu Japan.
