Steampunk smartphone

June 16, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 7 Comments

Richard Clarkson, aka @Clarkson_Rich, has designed this simply stunning steampunk phone. He calls it a “rotary mechanical smartphone” and I can see why. Clarkson writes that he wanted to include more feeling and life into our digital technology. I think he’s succeeded. Don’t you?

The datamancer’s impressive steampunk laptop

June 12, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This laptop is impressive. It’s a machine to be proud of, a work of art and given how long it probably took to build I’m sure it’s part of the family by now. A shoutout not just to Datamancer for having the awesome talent to build this machine but to Tiberius at Geek Tyrant for […]

GM Inspiration: Freaky steampunk bug

May 30, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

This picture was shared by a LiveJournal picture community without credit. If you know the creator please leave a comment – that’s if you’ve not already fled to the next post with a cry of “Eeeew!”. I think this bug is two parts freaky for each part cute. Most of all, perhaps, this picture strikes […]

Anthrobots: Steampunk insects built from bullets

May 1, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Some geeky creations are so great that they count as art. Step up artist Tom Hardwidge and the anthrobots. You can’t buy these via an ecommerce system yet but you can email Tom and discuss a commission. Clicking on any of these will open a larger image. There are, of course, more on Tom’s site […]

The Dreamcatcher: Steampunk Nerf gun

April 28, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

There is very little doubt; this gun is a work of art. It’s also fully functional. The good thing is that you get to shoot this gun without a license as its a modified Nerf Maverick. The gun was built by ProfessorCaTPardus who runs an Etsy Store. Bad news. The gun has already been sold […]

Brain-powered steampunk mouse

March 29, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I wonder how many people will see a tweet that says “Brain-powered steampunk mouse”, decide to click and find themselves blinking at this odd and slightly disturbing contraption. It’s a brain-powered steampunk mouse, they’ll think, as if the clue wasn’t in the title of the post. British designer Peter Balch is to “thank” for this […]

Steampunk Motorcycle

March 17, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

This is a rather awesome motorcycle – a steampunk motorcycle. This cycle was designed and made by Solif Design. I don’t understand a word of written Russian but it’s so very tempting to subscribe to their blog just to keep track of their latest projects.

Steampunk Boba Fett

February 22, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Here’s something pretty fantastic from Outland Armour. This steampunk Boba Fett costume manages to suggest Boba Fett more successfully than it shows Boba Fett. No kettles were harmed the production of this armour. Probably.

There comes a time when you need to draw attention to yourself and your geek cred at the start of any business meeting. The laptop has fired up. The Damsels of Dorkington do Steampunk pin ups

November 21, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Back in the summer The Damsels of Dorkington scored loads of geek cred with their hit I Kissed a Nerd. Not only was it a successful spoof of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl” but the video featured more than a few RPG shoutouts as well as geek culture references. This steampunk video isn’t a […]
