UK Role Players Gaming Award 2011 winners announced

February 1, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 2 Comments

British gaming forum UK Role Players have announced the winners of their 2011 Gaming Awards. First the bad news; UKRP LARP Designer, UKRP LARP and UKRP newcomer are all off the table as an award this year due to lack of valid entries. This is a shame. There are some great LARPs in the UK. […]

Is this spider monster too scary for any LARP?

January 26, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This blogger asked the question Are Air Swimmers any good LARPs?. The answer seems to be no. They’re too fragile. Oh, I suppose a clever team of GMs could have a shark swim through the air as a very clever effect. This video is attempt 2. TD Artwork has just finished creating a very large […]

Are Air Swimmers any good for LARPs?

January 9, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 3 Comments

I’m pretty sure you could use these inside as part of an encounter when a touch by an air swimmer equals trouble. You might even be able to get away with dressing up the air swimmer and still having it light enough to fly.

Responsible? No. Fun? Yes! Archery reenactment

October 22, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This is what happens when you put some medieval reenactment togther with a stag weekend. I know what you’re thinking – is that wise? Probably not – but they did it anyway. This blogger always knew that SCA didn’t really stand for Society for Creative Anachronism but for Society of Consenting Adults, he just didn’t […]

Free screening of the Wild Hunt LARP movie

October 2, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Last year Geek Native wrote about The Wild Hunt a move about a LARP going wrong. It was a popular post. The video’s now had over a quarter of a million plays. Over on UK Roleplayers forums there’s an invitation for gamers to arrange to go to the Prince Charles Cinema, London, on the 8th […]

Dungeon Master Gurls

September 30, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

I missed this last year. I’ve two theories as to how that managed to happen. Theory 1: I reached California Gurls parody overload. In a defensive move my brain developed a way to ignore anything that mentioned Katy Perry, California Gurls and perhaps even the word “parody” on Youtube. Theory 2: I was distracted by […]

RPG Musical: Role Initiative

September 12, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Okay, keep playing through the first few seconds of over dramatised musical and the actual video begins. This video is actually an entry for the 2011 Windy City 72 hour film competition. If that means they only had 72 hours to put it together – it’s very good. They had extra requirements; they had to […]

Knights of Badassdom trailer

July 24, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This may well be one of the best trailers to come out of Comic-Con this year. We have the LARP movie – Knights of Badassdom. Names include Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau and Ryan Kwanten. I suspect this movie will have a degree of “laugh at the LARPer” to it but it will be mainly be […]

Minecraft: the LARP

November 29, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There’s been a fair bit of visitors to Geek Native’s old Mindcraft review. It’s a page that dates back to the GameWyrd days. One theory as where these searchers are coming from are people searching for Minecraft. If that’s the case then this post will confuse things even more. In this post we feature Gary […]

Fountains of Blood

October 11, 2010 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Is it the end of the world? Is it another ad campaign for True Blood? Has a World of Darkness LARP got out of hand? Again? Or have the vampires finally taken over Europe? No. These fountains in Bucharest are running with blood (fake blood, of course) to draw attention to international hemophilia day (that’s […]
