This great shot was taken by @Hishgraphics and comes from Cubicle 7’s The Laundry RPG. Gareth Hanrahan’s tabletop isn’t a D&D fantasy at all, but a game based Charles Stross’ The Laundry Files in which a secret British agency battles to keep the world safe from Cthulhu like forces. It uses the Basic Role-Playing (BRP) […]

The illustrated Dungeons & Dragons alphabet
These illustrations from Caleb Cleveland are great. The gamer and concept artist has made the effort to include family friendly, daughter-savvy, images and yet managed to do an entire range of monsters. My favourite? The sequence O and P. What about you?
99 Problems and a Lich Ain’t One
The official trailer for Legend of the Lich Lord, a LARP-style adventure from One Hit Dice inspired Geek Native to call out this Lich problem t-shirt. It turns out the parody bug is catchy. From One Hit Dice themselves, vocals by Emily Renner Wallace, lyrics by Keith Donaldson and with the assistance of the Calgary […]
Christmas gift idea for an evil GM
Are you caught between having an evil GM while also needing to pick up a Christmas or holiday gift for them? What about this? “Ignore my browser history! I’m a Gamemaster not a murderer” Not a phrase you’ve heard before? I bet it’s been on the tip of a few GM’s lips over the last […]
Short film: Monster Problems
Looking for a short film to show your kids this Halloween? I think Monster Problems might be what you’re looking for. A boy manages to make it safely into bed by leaping just as the lights go out. Is it enough? Not quite; that doesn’t stop a trio of terrors from surrounding him. Fans of […]
Learning to RPG: The D&D PowerPoint
Alex Farr made and shared this PowerPoint designed to help players learn D&D. Some important lessons in here, don’t you think?
Man builds real life Mjolnir and trolls with Thor’s hammer
YouTube engineer Sufficiently Advanced created a real life Thor’s hammer. It’s a great little demonstration of some agile engineering. Also; it’s a great way to troll people and make a popular YouTube video. What puzzles me is why so many people gave picking up the hammer a go.
Why D&D characters never go to Valhalla
Valhalla is the afterlife of Viking warriors. It is a great hall where the feast and celebrations carry on until the end of the world. This is your reward for a battle death! Except if you’re a D&D character and you’d rather level up! (Via Rock Paper Cynic)
Second guessing Gandalf’s motives
Who will take the ring to Mordor? Lots of people were ready to step up and carry the ring. We’re not saying Things in Squares is entirely right with this vision … just that it’s worth thinking about. Also, wouldn’t it have been handy to have Superman on Middle-Earth?
Short film: Looters
Looters is a short film inspired by Skyrim. I suspect many tabletop gamers will recognise the chaotic evil that sometimes take a hold of dice when it comes to random loot tables, though. The VFX here are the work of Daniel Vink, one of the Fury Fingers team who work along side the director/writer Andrew […]
