Ghost in the Shell: Arise trailer

February 12, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfHdMgR7_HI The first trailer for the new Ghost in the Shell is out – although it falls under the YouTube category of “watch it before it’s yanked”. It’s hard to watch the trailer, consider the name and not conclude that Arise is a prequel. There’s no more debate as to whether Major Kusanagi looks the […]

The movie timeline of the future [infographic]

June 17, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This infographic from Michael Hobson is pretty cool. He’s a designer and illustrator based in London and one of the founders of Digital Sizzle. I’m not entirely sure he’s a fan of Ghost in the Shell. Then again; Cowboy Bebop is on the list so perhaps he’s an anime fan after all. The future according […]

Body pillows are not just popular among Japanese otaku. In Korea a man married his Fate Testorossa body pillow, a character from the anime Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. Motorised LEGO tachikoma is mega awesome

March 29, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood 1 Comment

What’s not to love about this video? We’ve got LEGO. We’ve got a clever motorised model. We’ve a cute tachikoma straight out of Ghost in the Shell. The three together? Awesome. Mahjqa is the brains behind this project. You can check out some more pictures on Flickr or – if you’re awesome yourself – attempt […]

Tachikoma are cute AI tanks that first appeared in Ghost in the Shell. Over on Flickr, a Think Tanks group has been running Marchikoma – as strict building challenge for building Tachikomas. The entry below comes from Cole Blaq who has a very strong, and growing, reputation as a LEGO builder. Via Brothers Brick.

December 10, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Are you a shoe collector? Shoes are where high fashion meets otaku culture. Both tribes collect with a passion and spend plenty of money on it. With these Ghost in the Shell sneakers Reebok may have managed to blend both worlds. We’re talking very limited edition; only 500 of these tachikoma trainers being made. Via […]

April 1, 2011 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Since there’s a 3D version of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society someone’s gone further than the obvious idea of putting Ghost’s cyberspace interface together with the Kinect – they’ve actually built it. The game makes use of two huge screens. if you happen to be at the S.A.C. Premium Shop, […]

It’s simply amazing what people can build out of Lego. Combine the really healthy online Lego community with the huge anime fan culture and it should come as no surprise that there’s some fantastic cross-over. This quick blog post simply showcases a half dozen lego anime creations. One rule; no Gundams here. There’s no suggestion […]
