Geeky music videos

Welcome to the Music category, where we turn up the volume on the sounds of geek culture. This is your destination for epic gaming soundtracks, synthwave scores, chiptune artists, and bands whose lyrics are inspired by our favourite fandoms. We celebrate the music that provides the backdrop to our adventures, from the sweeping orchestrations of a fantasy epic to the pulsing beats of a cyberpunk future.

We have a special appreciation for the visual side of music, and this section is always on the lookout for clever, creative, and unapologetically geeky music videos. If a song tells a story or an artist has a unique vision, you'll likely find their videos featured here. Tune in and discover your next geek anthem.

Gollum versus Smeagol in rap battle

January 2, 2013 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Rap battles are the turn for turn exchange of insults “sung” in the rap style… so it only makes sense that Gollum would end up in one with, er, with Smeagol. Who do you think won? I’m pretty sure ‘Adam Levine’ comes out of this encounter as the loser.

Mi-Go and Yog-Sothoth Christmas carols

December 25, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society have a knack of putting together earworms of clips. They tunnel into your brain and plant songs. The track above is “I saw mommy kissing Yog-Sothoth” which isn’t your usual Christmas carol and yet feels oddly familiar. What about “Freddy the red brained Mi-Go”? could that be a Christmas carol […]

The official Dishonored “Killer Moves” compilation

November 15, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Bethesda have released a YouTube compilation of all their best fan submmitted power combos, killer moves and sneaky-sneaksneaks. Francesco Certo, a Dishonored fan, won the competition. Names of the other finalists are shown in the video – contrats if you get a mention. The music in the trailer is another winner; this time from the […]

Mortal Kombat Vs Gangnam Style with The Super Zeroes

November 8, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

There are still some Gangnam videos worth sharing because they’re surreal, weird and entirely geeky. This Mortal Kombat Vs Gangnam Style video from The Super Zeroes is certainly one of those. The Super Zeroes feel like a group worth watching. They’ve already done a Marvel themed flash mob before this and I suspect we’ll see […]

The Zombie Song

November 2, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Like it? You can download this undead little earworm for free from Stephanie Mabey or buy the album for $10 USD. The music video for this is pretty simple – but it’s effective. The art makes the point, adds to the experience and doesn’t threaten the song (unlike the bride).

Doctor Who: The Musical!

November 2, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Fan based musical versions of Doctor Who pop up now and then. Sometimes they’re hopeless, sometimes they’re good – where you do put this one on the scale? If you’re a fan you can download it from AVbyte who make little musicals like this every week. Some key lines to note; Dammit, I’m still not […]

Violin zombie battles

October 27, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Lindsey Stirling often gets her violin videos on Geek Native as she knows how to press geeky buttons. We’ve had a Skyrim video, Game of Thrones and Zelda. Now? Now there’s zombies with a track called Moon Trance. If you’re a fan you can buy Stirling’s album from iTunes.

Sound of Cylons

October 21, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

You might remember this classic Simon & Garfunkel song. It was widely accepted that at least one half of the talented duo was a skin-job but there was never consensus on which one was the murderous killer. Evidence to suggest the partnership had toaster tendencies first emerged after they recorded, “Sound of Cylons”. Alternative history […]

Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto comic

October 20, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

A music video done as a motion comic is a pretty good idea. The track in question is “Hurts Like Heaven” by Coldplay. The video is actually a prequel to the six-part comic series telling the story of Mylo Xyloto. You can pre-order the comic from Coldplay’s fanfire site. The comic is published by Bongo […]

Behind the scenes at Sony’s “Listen. Watch. Play.”

October 10, 2012 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Sony Entertainment Network put together a funky and rather geeky party. The result was this showcase video you can see above. It’s not hard to imagine it being used in ad campaigns this year. When Geek Native heard about this – we pestered the agencies involved until we unlocked some behind the scenes information. What’s […]
