The publisher Namco Bandai is reporting a hefy $312m loss for the end of its fiscal year. That’s a drastic drop when compared to the $126m profit it made the year before.
Surprisingly, it was computer games that are responsible for much of this drop. Bandai Namco’s computer game outfit made an operating loss of $73m.
This wasn’t just an American problem. The same occured across Europe.
The most successful computer game Bandai Namco had this year was Tekken 6. This cross-platform game sold 1.84m units for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and another 0.5m for the PSP.
It was Bandai Namco’s toys and games department that did the bset. It managed to make an operating income of $116m.
In particular Ben 10 did well. Ben 10 Alien Force beat the 1m sales mark and the sequel range is likely to do just as well or better.
