There’s a treasure of big announcements coming out of D23 this weekend. I hope there’s time for little gems like this: a new poster for Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.
We’ve Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) locked in melee, lightsabers in action and the looming face in the background very much appears to be Darth Sidious (Ian McDiarmid), better known as Emperor Palpatine.
This will be the last of the nine movies in the Skywalker saga of Star Wars. JJ Abrams, who did so well with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, returns to pick up from Rian Johnson and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The crew will be back, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and even Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
As usual, Star Wars will open around Christmas.
The Skywalker saga won’t be the end of Star Wars though. There’s a new film series coming to us via Rian Johnsson. DB Weiss and David Benioff, who turned Game of Thrones from novel into the TV sensation it became, have a movie series too. Then there’s The Mandalorian Disney+ series.
