Published last year and now seen be half a million views, “Within, Without” gives us something to think about.
The short animation begins as a lone knight roams in a sparse world. She’s attacked by a strange monster and fights back. Or tries to.
Within, Without isn’t so much about depression as it is about social anxiety. It’s about being swarmed by people, about letting them drag you down – even if they don’t mean to – and, most of all, it’s about continuing on. All you need to do is take the next step.
Amazingly, this animation is a college workshop. It comes from the third year students at The Animation Workshop/VIA University College in Viborg, Denmark. It’s a passing grade, for sure.
