In Chinese mythology Shenlong (or Shen-lung; translating to spirit dragon) is the master of storms and bringer of rain. He has significance equal to that of the celestial dragon Tianlong.

I first encountered Shenlong by watching Dragon Ball. It’s that image of a huge, spiralling green dragon that will forever live with me as my idea of the Dragon God. I’m not alone. If you search Deviant Art or other galleries for Shenlong then the weretiger from Bloody Roar makes plenty of appearances but it is the Dragon Ball deity who dominates.
Shenlong’s most significant scenes in Dragon Ball come right at the end. As Dragon Ball GT Season 2 releases in the UK on the 17th of March, which is the last of the anime, let’s look at seven more visions of Shenlong.

While I was meditating, I had a vision of the Shenlong dragon. When the vision began, all I saw was azure blue skies with puffy, cumulus clouds rolling in. Sounds like a beautiful vision, Makayla. I hope you get to draw your Shenlong someday. I love the Eastern dragons because they are beautiful, helpful, companions and guardians. They are not evil and enemies as Western dragons are depicted.
