Captain Harlock, created by the manage arist Leiji Matsumoto, has appeared in a few shows. They include Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Arcadia of my Youth, Harlock Saga, Gun Frontier (in which he was the sidekick!) and Endless Oydssey.
The new movie has been in production for a few years anad the trailer first aired at the Kawaii-Kon festival in Hawaii back in 2010. However, Toei Animation now plan to release the CG movie towards the end of this year. Some reports suggest this is the highest budget movie the famous Toei have ever created. Hopefully it’ll get some European exposure as well.
