Geek & Sundry has released the premiere episode of Sagas of Sundry: Darkling Gate, an eight-part horror actual play series produced in Los Angeles. The new season adapts Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game system into a nineteenth-century period drama, mixing social manners with cosmic horror.
The launch marks the first new entry in the anthology series since 2017, shifting creative direction away from original creator Ivan Van Norman. Performer Ross Bryant steps in as the Keeper of Arcane Lore, leading an ensemble through an unfolding mystery set against a Regency backdrop.

Call of Cthulhu rules and the Regency setting

The production pitches its story as a clash between high society manners and occult dread. Chaosium published an official Regency Cthulhu sourcebook in 2022 that details social-standing mechanics, reputation pools, and period-accurate investigative skills tailored to early nineteenth-century England.
Darkling Gate adopts those period tropes directly. The Montgomery siblings and their circle navigate familial expectations, social etiquette, and drawing-room decorum while confronting sanity-draining monstrosities. The format moves away from the tactile, set-piece mechanics seen in earlier seasons, such as the precarious Dread jenga tower in Sagas of Sundry: Dread, in favour of traditional percentile dice rolls and skill checks under the standard Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition rules.
The Critical Role distribution connection
The release highlights an evolving distribution partnership between Geek & Sundry and Critical Role. While marketed primarily under the Geek & Sundry banner, the official audio feed on Apple Podcasts routes directly through Critical Role’s network infrastructure.
Critical Role began as a Geek & Sundry live stream before becoming an independent media company in 2018. Routing Darkling Gate through Critical Role’s central podcast directory gives the anthology access to an established subscriber base that dwarfs Geek & Sundry’s modern streaming reach. Whether this indicates an overarching co-production agreement or a targeted syndication deal remains unannounced by either studio.
Episode 1 is available to stream on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. The remaining seven episodes will air weekly.
