The Chaos sells out three print runs as Venger's Decks teases sci-fi follow-up

Scottish indie tabletop studio Venger’s Decks is developing a standalone cyberpunk card roleplaying game under the working title The Grid, following three consecutive sold-out print runs of its fantasy predecessor, The Chaos. Speaking directly to Geek Native at Stand W-03 during Tabletop Scotland 2026 at the Royal Highland Centre, lead designer Scott Docherty confirmed that the project aims to adapt the pocket-sized, deck-based system to a futuristic setting, with a targeted release window next year.

The announcement comes as The Chaos continues to draw steady crowds at the Ingliston show hall. Released earlier this year as a physical £15 boxed set, the pocket roleplaying game packs rules, character options, geomorph maps, and tables across standard playing cards, supported by a free web app for procedural generation. Having cleared out multiple printings prior to the convention, stock at the Venger’s Decks booth has dwindled rapidly over the weekend.

The game has clearly hit a zeitgeist Docherty and I mused at Tabletop Scotland, noting the strong demand for self-contained, rules-light games that require zero prep and fit directly into a pocket.

The Grid will build upon that core model without requiring the original fantasy deck. Instead of subterranean dungeon rooms, subterranean monster encounters, and fantasy loot, the upcoming game swaps out fantasy crawls for high-tech cityscapes, corporate terminals, and chrome-edged street skirmishes. Players will generate urban infiltrations and cyberspace obstacles straight from the deck, pairing the physical draw mechanics with another dedicated online companion tool.

Work on the underlying digital companion and card design remains underway. Docherty noted that a 2027 launch is practical, setting up a likely return to Tabletop Scotland next year with physical copies in hand.

For convention attendees visiting the Royal Highland Centre before doors close on Sunday 6 September, limited copies of The Chaos alongside modular cartography sets like The Snap remain available at Venger’s Decks at Stand W-03.
