It was great catching up with Manchester-based award-winning independent tabletop game publisher Heartborn Studios at Tabletop Scotland 2026 today, where they have been showing off their new war golem minions, and their latest epic hero due to be introduced, Jacob Heartborn the Necromancer (pictured).
Jacob Heartborn and the war golems are part of a new, not-yet-for-sale epic heroes set, and it was great to get a glimpse of them on the topmost tier of figures at the Heartborn Studios stand. Jacob Heartborn is set to be released ahead of the other epic heroes, with a pencilled-in released date to coincide with Dragonmeet (28th November).
This necromancer is described as the master of death and control, and looks like a gnarly dude who doesn’t mess around (but does create a great deal of mess). His powers all revolve around manipulating others around him to do his bidding, and forcing allies to fight each other by sending them into a deep trance.
He also summons deadly flesh constructs (which we got a glimpse of, too!) which happen to be tormented creations formed from the remains of his victims to prey upon the living – utterly charming stuff!
Here’s a brief blurb about how Heartborn will fit into the Hearts of Power two-player tactical skirmish game:
After a long peace, the Living Realm is under attack! The threrat of an unknown ancient evil approaches and the assembly of heroes has been called! Every being of renown is attuned to the Living Realms’ power and life force has gathered to answer the call. But not all in attendance come with good intentions. A sinister shadow looms over the gathering. Some have come for revenge, to prove themselves as heroes, or to claim ultimate power! Gather your party of heroes and fight to stop your opponent from claiming ultimate victory over the Living Realm!
It’s also pretty cool that these figures come hand-painted by wargamers Danni and Jessie.
I’m loving the detail in Jacob Heartborn and his ummm… unusual, eternally suffering, moist-looking companions.

What do you reckon? Will you be adding this necromancer of death to your shopping list this Christmas?
