Publisher Mythworks has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Sourdown, a 50+ page reach and adventure expansion for Felix Isaacs’ acclaimed tabletop roleplaying game, The Wildsea. The project smashed its initial funding goal of £13,381 within hours of launching, securing over £60,000 from nearly 1,400 backers.
Sourdown takes wildsailors into the ancestral home of the tzelicrae, a hive-mind species of silk-weaving spiders who inhabit human-shaped cloth shells. Designed around a narrative, fiction-first d6 dicepool mechanic, this expansion introduces four distinct territories within an ailing region, over 15 new locations, a meddling leviathan hazard, and expanded options for character creation and ship construction.
Silk, Spiders, and Submerged Machinery
Set in a world overrun by a vast sea of treetop greenery known as the Verdancy, The Wildsea uses the Wild Words engine. Character actions resolve using pools of six-sided dice, where rolling 6s yields complete success, 4s and 5s introduce narrative complications, and low rolls usher in disasters.
The Sourdown expansion enriches this framework by expanding on the lore of the tzelicrae, providing a deeper look into their cults, cultivation, and social structures. Players gain access to at least four new character options, including a new bloodline, origin, and posts, alongside rules for customising vessels to suit local factional travel. The included adventure takes crews from the submerged slurry of the Morani Tubeworks to the towering Rassinger Silk-Rig.
The campaign follows recent industry trends toward modular setting expansions, echoing the success of narrative-heavy releases across the indie roleplaying game scene. Writer and designer Felix Isaacs leads the creative team alongside illustrator Leo Chung and concept artist Ömercan Cirit.
