The first trailer for sci-fi thriller Hot Spot has dropped from Focus Features, and it looks like a wild, dystopian, cyber AI-fuelled ride – as well as slightly disturbing and visually striking.
The film comes from Agnieszka Smoczyńska, and combines dystopian sci-fi with murder mystery, horror, and noir detective storytelling with a hella quirky added charm.
Upon watching the trailer, it seems Noomi Rapace is a witch, but not a cyber witch, despite being described as that by most of the news outlets who’ve watched the same trailer as we have.
According to the official synopsis:
Set in a near-future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord. As the detective’s identity slowly unravels, his world enters a state of hypnotic meltdown.
Hot Spot also stars Andrzej Konopka (The Lure) and Reika Kirishima (Drive My Car). Check out the full trailer below:
I’m getting mild Dune vibes from Rapace’s getup, but combined with Cyberpunk 2077 and even a bit of Disco Elysium. You know what that means? I’m fairly excited by this.
And you’ll be able to watch Hot Spot when it’s released on 21st August.
