Crowdfunding platform BackerKit and digital tabletop marketplace DriveThruRPG have launched a technical integration designed to automate the delivery of digital rewards. The system uses a unified application programming interface (API) to link backer pledges directly to DriveThruRPG account libraries, reducing the time spent navigating separate platforms.

The integration allows creators who launch campaigns on BackerKit to distribute digital files seamlessly during or after a crowdfunding run, replacing traditional manual fulfilment processes such as spreadsheet management or distributing separate download keys. Under the new system, backers gain access to a direct link immediately after pledging, routing them straight to their existing digital library.
While both companies are executing their core functions – BackerKit managing crowdfunding pledges and DriveThruRPG handling digital fulfilment – the automated pipeline alters the standard mid-campaign workflow for independent publishers. Instead of waiting for a campaign to conclude before processing complimentary copy tools, publishers can toggle on immediate delivery for early rewards or partial game drafts to build campaign momentum.
The change also impacts user data pipelines across the tabletop industry. Backers are required to hold or register a free DriveThruRPG account to secure their rewards. While this ensures files remain secured in a single repository, it further consolidates digital asset management under the expanding Roll20 ecosystem, which now spans virtual tabletops, digital character tools, and PDF marketplaces.
Prominent industry creators have already indicated plans to implement the system for upcoming projects. Fred Hicks, Co-founder at Evil Hat Productions, said in a statement:
We’re thrilled about the new BackerKit DriveThruRPG integration! As the leader in RPG PDFs, DriveThruRPG offers incredible tools and publisher support. At Evil Hat, we use them for every BackerKit campaign—from PDF delivery to global print-on-demand. We can’t imagine crowdfunding without both platforms and will definitely use this for our next project!”
Publishers accessing the tool can manage fulfilment directly from their BackerKit campaign page. The system is designed to provide immediate utility to backers, enabling creators to offer digital assets as incentives for early pledges and campaign reservations.
