Tucked away near the entrance of the National Exhibition Centre, the Midnight Tower booth offered a literal and figurative cool escape from the intense heat of this year’s UK Games Expo. It was inside this dark, cave-like retreat that Geek Native learned of the London-based studio’s next major project: an unannounced, Frankenstein-inspired steampunk investigation for their Eastern Farraway setting.

The upcoming adventure, which does not yet have a confirmed title or crowdfunding launch date, marks a stylistic evolution for the publisher. Designed for 5e and 5.5e roleplaying games, the new scenario will blend traditional fantasy with a distinct steampunk aesthetic and elements of horror investigation. It is set in Eastern Farraway, Midnight Tower’s signature campaign world that draws heavily on the Scandinavian heritage of creators Erik and Tove.
Speaking on the show floor, the team discussed their fascination with the “what-ifs” of fantasy worldbuilding. Eastern Farraway actively explores the geopolitical and social fallout of cataclysms in a magical realm. When an earthquake strikes a fantasy continent, the resulting refugees are often goblins, orcs, and trolls looking for safe harbour. Because magic is notably rare in this setting, the world is defined more by its hidden secrets and grounded struggles than by high-level spellcasting.
That grounded, community-focused approach was evident at the NEC. Rather than monopolising their exhibition space, Midnight Tower thoughtfully decorated a structural concrete pillar within their booth with posters from other community members, publishers, and websites, including Geek Native. It was a generous gesture that highlighted the collaborative spirit of the independent RPG scene.
While players await the eventual Kickstarter launch of the new steampunk adventure, Midnight Tower has recently launched a Patreon to share ongoing worldbuilding lore, maps, and art. Additionally, those looking to explore the setting immediately can sign up for the studio’s newsletter to receive the free Call of the Wild adventure and Octavia Dragonborn’s Compendium, a 40-page supplement of character backgrounds, unique maps, and subclasses.
