Sony announce new PS3 model

There is a new PlayStation 3 on it’s way. It’ll be released in Japan at least and the official page is up with all the details.

We’re looking at a new PS3 that consumes less power, is lighter in weight and has a 320 gigabyte hard disk. The pricing looks to be about the same and it comes with a Dual Shock 3, power cable, AV cable and USB.

The first bundle for it (the hardware is charmingly known as model type CECH-3000) will be a rather funky Tales of Xillia X Edition. As it happens the new PS3 in the bundle is slightly lower spec than the standalone and comes only with a 160gigs of disc. There’s been no suggestion you can buy a solo 160gig version of the upgraded hardware.
