Just in time for Halloween, Free League Publishing has released a significant wave of new products for its multi-award-winning Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying game. The release includes a major new expansion, a Starter Set to onboard new players, and an updated Revised Edition of the core rulebook.

The new hardback expansion, Mythic Carpathia, broadens the game’s scope beyond Scandinavia, taking players to the streets of Prague and the forests and mountains of Central and Eastern Europe. This supplement introduces a host of folklore and horrors from the region, including vampires, rusalkas, and the infamous Baba Yaga.
The $44.99 book details the Carpathia branch of the secretive Society, provides a gazetteer for Prague, and features 16 local vaesen. It also includes three new mysteries set in Prague, Ukraine, and Transylvania. The expansion is illustrated by Johan Egerkrans, Anton Vitus, and Francesca Baerald, and was written by a team of Polish and Ukrainian writers. A new Vampire Hunter archetype is also included for players.
For those yet to step into the Mythic North, Free League has also released the Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying Starter Set. This $29.99 boxed set provides an entry point with a condensed rulebook, five pre-generated characters, custom dice, maps, and the introductory mystery, The Haunting of Castle Gyllencreutz.

Finally, the Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying Revised Edition core rulebook ($49.99) is now available, bringing the popular game back into print after being sold out in many regions. The publisher notes that this revised edition features “clarified and improved game mechanics” but remains fully compatible with all previously released supplements. A new set of ten custom Vaesen dice ($19.99) has also been launched to accompany the release.
The game, based on the art of Johan Egerkrans and powered by the Year Zero Engine, has received critical acclaim since its 2020 release.

All three new titles are available now from the Free League webshop and in hobby stores. PDF versions are available on DriveThruRPG, with VTT modules also released on Foundry, Roll20, and Alchemy.
