Since 2004, the Scottish band Alestorm has been sailing the high seas of heavy metal. Hailing from Perth – a city even further north than Geek Native’s Edinburgh HQ – their distinct pirate-themed music has earned them the “pirate metal” label from their dedicated fanbase and critics.
The band’s latest, “Killed to Death by Piracy”, is very much on-theme!
I’m reminded a little, but just a little, of “Dumb Ways To Die”. Why? All the ways to die! It’s certainly not as if the songs are similar!
It might be a little to do with the animation. It seems odd to say this, but I get Disney vibes from the style, certainly not the action. The animator is Canadian Alex Henderson, who’s previously won awards for Tales from Scorchwater Valley: The Rhino and the Redbill.
“Killed to Death by Piracy” is from Alestorm’s The Thunderfist Chronicle,s which will be released on the 20th. Other tracks include “Goblins Ahoy!”, “The Storm” and, erm, well, “Frozen Piss 2”. I’ll admit; I’ve not heard “Frozen Piss”. Have I missed out?
Oh, and a bit of safety research before posting shows me that lead singer Christopher Bowes has been an absolute bellend in the past.
