Earlier this week, Games Workshop’s Horus Heresy (or just post-Hersey) anthology The Siege of Terra: Era of Ruin, with stories from the likes of Dan Abnett, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Guy Haley and others, went on sale.
It did not go to plan. You could even say it was chaos.

You can buy Era of Ruin, no bother, from Amazon. It’s number one in Amazon UK’s “Metaphysical & Visionary” section, which is amusing.
However, if you wanted the special edition, you had to go to Warhammer.com and grab it there. First, the virtual queue kicked in, and you might not have seen one of those since trying to do grocery shopping online since the lockdown. Then, the site died.
When Warhammer.com went down, it was a glorious and self-sacrificing death. And it wasn’t for long.
In a statement, Games Workshop said;
Scalpers tried to use bots (professional ticket sellers effectively attacked the site) to bypass security and snap up the soon-to-be-rare copies of the book. Games Workshop’s techs noticed and responded by pulling the site offline.

The company will now relaunch the special edition and has launched a special email sign-up process for fans to re-enter the queue.

Era of Ruin is pitched;
This new book collects together eight new stories from the writers of the Siege of Terra series, following characters through this apocalyptic reckoning. The book contains an introduction by Black Library, and the stories Angels of Another Age by John French, Fulgurite by Nick Kyme, Fragments (All We Have Left) by Dan Abnett, Ex Libris by John French, System Purge by Gav Thorpe, After the Dawn, the Darkness by Guy Haley, Homebound by Chris Wraight and The Carrion Lord of the Imperium by Aaron Dembski-Bowden.
The limited edition, which has been making waves and bringing down sites, features a cool leather-like cover with shiny gold details, gilded edges on the pages, and a metal emblem of a worn-out Imperial eagle.
