The Moonshine Adventure Company has officially announced the launch of its first set of Dungeons & Dragons Holiday Adventures, offering RPG enthusiasts a unique opportunity to delve into original stories in breathtaking settings. They’ll be at the UK Games Expo this year at Stand 3A-870.

The Cambridge-based company was founded with a clear mission: to provide dedicated time and space for RPG fans to play, free from the distractions of everyday life. Moonshine aims to elevate the gaming experience by crafting original narratives inspired by its evocative and dramatic holiday locales. After a series of successful test events, the company is now opening its doors to the public.
Sam Lockhouse, co-founder of Moonshine Adventure Company, shared the inspiration behind the venture:
For [co-founder] Tom and I, gaming weekends are a sacred space where we can take a break from reality and be kids again. We decided to make them even more special and share them with the world; that’s how the Moonshine Adventure Company was born. We can’t wait to share this sanctuary we’ve built; where people can escape and think of nothing but telling unforgettable stories together. And we’re so excited to be working with some of the most talented game masters in the UK to help our adventurers shape their destinies together.”
Moonshine is kicking off with three distinct, ticketed Adventures set across England, promising a blend of beautiful scenery and dramatic history:
- ‘Elvers and Betters‘: Unravel mysteries at Westward House, nestled in the unique landscape of the Cambridgeshire Fens.
- ‘Bad Habits’: Explore dark secrets in Whitby, the medieval Yorkshire seaside town famed for its gothic atmosphere.
- ‘Blood and Banners’: Embark on an epic quest in a historic castle on the edge of the atmospheric Forest of Dean.
Moonshine Adventure Company also offers custom Adventures. Groups can book to play any tabletop RPG in any location, with prices starting at £225 per person per night.
Guiding these epic journeys will be a lineup of accomplished and professional game masters (GMs):
- Eve Byers (She/They): A GM at Arcadia Games in London, also an actor and writer.
- Zack Fortais-Gomm (He/Him): Known for GMing the actual play series Realms of Peril & Glory and producing Oxventure.
- Michelle Kelly (She/Her): GMs for EUphoria Actual Play, alongside her work in acting, voice acting, and game design.
- Maddy Searle (They/Them): The GM behind the solo/duet TTRPG podcast A Game of One’s Own and a core cast member of Realms of Peril & Glory.
- Adam Taylor (He/Him): A regular GM at major UK conventions like Airecon and UK Games Expo.
- Lou Fryer (They/Them): An actual play performer in Of Dice and Them and many other shows, a TTRPG writer, editor, and a past D&D In a Castle GM.
Tom Lock, co-founder of Moonshine, elaborated on the company’s creative philosophy:
We’ve always been inspired by real-world history. We want to draw on the UK’s vast reserves of heritage to give players a truly immersive RPG experience, with the time and space to explore real and fantastical wonders. Our Adventures bring together historic properties with local histories, myths and legends to create fantasy settings grounded in authenticity.”
With its unique blend of immersive storytelling, stunning locations, and expert game masters, The Moonshine Adventure Company hopes to offer unforgettable escapes for RPG enthusiasts looking for their next great adventure. Given the increasing costs and challenges of foreign travel, the timing for staycations and fantasy-themed country breaks might be well-timed.
