Helluva Town is an adult TTRPG from Acheron International inspired by 1930s-style cartoons to the tune of Cuphead.
The publisher ran a successful Kickstarter for it, which raised nearly $140,000 from about 2,000 backers, and the estimated shipping date is April 2025.
The 40-page quickstart released to promote the crowdfunding campaign is still live and free. For now.
Described as an acid trip through Popeye and Betty Boop with a sudden swerve to Cool World and The Goon, Helluva Town casts PCs as living toons in a city full of sex, crime and zany adventure.
Although it’s free, the quickstart has been reviewed several times and currently ranks 4.4/5 stars at DriveThruRPG.
Helluva Town‘s introduction describes the secret ingredient in this whacky and mob-controlled city – Ink. As a toon, Ink is incredibly important to you. In the Grin Gardens, for example, Bella Bloom sings, lightly dressed and sexy hamburgers shake their buns at you and fish-eyed fish-people sell sandwiches.
The system uses a deck of cards, and players draw two, adding the values together, plus any bonuses for matching suits to determine the results of challenges and confrontation.
The introductory adventure is called Fly Me to the Moon, and the quickstart provides pregenned characters to play, but players still need to pick a name for their gang.
