With over 100 Kickstarters launched, Philip Reed and project partner Lex Morgan have funded Quest for Zines: a Zine Quest Zine About Zines.
This Zine Quest success will see 28 interviews with zine creators. The result? A zine with those interviews. You can support the community and the project over on Kickstarter.

Kickstarter has given Quest for Zines a “Project We Love”. Philip Reed has backed nearly 1700, so the prestigious label feels like fair play to me.
The pitch for Quest for Zines says that the Games category on Kickstarter makes up the largest portion of funded projects. Making zines is a labour of love for these creators which might be while the success rate is high.
You don’t have to wait as the interviews are being posted to Kickstarter . The zine, the campaign reward, is the physical combination of the series.
Creating roleplaying games, or the additions to them, is rewarding work. However, it’s also tough. It involves crafting tens of thousands of words, assembling dozens upon dozens of art pieces, and navigating the complexities of printing (whether it be local or on the other side of the world). But since the inception of the hobby of roleplaying games five decades ago, there have been those willing to overcome obstacles to share their unique vision with the world.
Backers can support the project by sharing it on social media and by pledging cash. Those who pledge $1 or more get looped in on the updates.
At $3, backers get the PDF of the Zine. The PDF comes via a coupon code and DriveThruRPG. There’s no other third party involved; the coupon comes via Kickstarter’s messaging system.
The same technique is repeated for backers at $5; this time, the codes are good for both PDF and print-on-demand copies. Backers will have to pay for printing and shipping.
There’s a US tier at $25, which adds a print copy of Quest for Zines, which is geographically locked.
After this, there are limited tiers up to $100, which add in other zines but are all limited to the United States only.
Lex and Philip estimate a delivery in December 2025 for the zine, and the Quest for Zines campaign runs until the end of February.
