Boxing Day Sales
Boxing Day, December 26th, is a Commonwealth tradition with origins in dispute. Yes, there are boxing matches often on the 26th, but this is not a warrior celebration. One theory is that in olden times, wealthy homeowners would gift their servants with boxes after Christmas. Another is that church alms boxes would open on the 26th to distribute money collected for the poor.
More recently, in the UK, Boxing Day is a sales day in shops, and elsewhere, similar discounts are known as Winter Sales.
